‘There are plenty of waterways in Central Finland. The province has lakes, ponds, and running water to every fisher's liking, and in many sizes. The water quality is primarily excellent or good, which also ensures that the fish are clean, healthy, and suitable for eating. Brown trout is the province’s official fish, and a very sought-after catch. In addition to brown trout, also grayling, freshwater trout, and whitefish are pursued in the rapids. The most common catches for lake fishers are pike, sander, whitefish, and bass.
The waterways in the Jämsänjoki river valley continue almost unbroken all the way from lake Petäjävesi to the Päijänne lake. The lakes in the area are teeming with sander and pike. Trout may be caught in lake Karikkoselkä and near many streams. The most common catches in the area are pike, sander, and bass. The Survosenkoski river flowing through the town of Jämsänkoski provides fishers with variety. The water runs in two channels for approximately 100 metres. The old mill ruins on the beautiful shores of the Survosenkoski fishing area ensure that fishers are not the only people to come here!’
